ANTIOCH — New videos released by the city — in what federal prosecutors now allege was an incident of police abuse — show an Antioch police officer fire a less-lethal launcher at a transgender woman whose hands were raised as a half-dozen officers, some with guns drawn, surrounded her.In the video, Officer Devon Wenger — one of eight Antioch officers charged in a sweeping FBI indictment alleging civil rights violations and other crimes — is seen firing a less-lethal 40mm round at now 29-year-old Dajon Smith, striking her in the chest as she stood next to an allegedly stolen Masarati with both hands raised above her head. A few seconds earlier, Antioch police Sgt. Joshua Evans — who remains on leave for sending explicitly racist texts to colleagues — can be heard telling Wenger to “plug (her) a– with the 40.”“Don’t you see my hands right here?” Smith yelled at officers, hands raised, two seconds before Wenger shot her with the sponge round. PADANG, Indonesia (AP) — Indonesia’s Mount Marapi in West Sumatra province erupted Sunday, spewing white-and-gray ash plumes more than 3,000 meters (9,800 feet) into the air and sending hot ash clouds several miles away. There were no immediate report of casualties, said Ahmad Rifandi, an official with Indonesia’s Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation Center at the Marapi monitoring post. The two routes for climbers were closed after the eruption and villagers living on the slopes of the mountain were advised to stay 3 kilometers (1.8 miles) from the crater’s mouth because of potential lava.About 70 climbers started their way up the nearly 2,900-meter (9,480-foot) mountain on Saturday and became stranded. So far, 28 have been successfully evacuated with the rest still awaiting rescue, said Dian Indriati, the acting head of North Sumatra’s conservation agency.A video on social media shows the climbers were evacuated to a shelter, their faces and hair smeared with volcanic dust...The Pentagon says an American warship and multiple commercial vessels have come under attack in the Red Sea
