SANTA CLARA — Scoring in 12 consecutive games has not quenched Christian McCaffrey’s thirst for touchdowns.“Obviously you want to score every time you touch the ball,” McCaffrey said Thursday, three days before his next chance to do so for the undefeated 49ers (3-0).McCaffrey’s scoring spree is reaching historic levels. Jerry Rice scored in all 12 games (with 22 touchdown catches) during the strike-shortened 1987 season, and McCaffrey can surpass that stretch Sunday against the visiting Arizona Cardinals (1-2).McCaffrey called it “a huge honor” to join Rice in that company. The Dallas Cowboys’ Emmitt Smith scored 13 games in a row in 1995, and the Houston Texans’ Arian Foster did the same in 2011-12. McCaffrey has scored a rushing touchdown in each of the 49ers’ wins this season, and his 12-game streak dates back to last December and the playoffs. It’s not just his scoring that amazes his teammates. PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Bryce Harper flipped out on the third base umpire and then flipped his maroon Phillies helmet over the protective netting and into the stands. This was no ordinary souvenir like a foul ball. Hayden Dorfman, a 10-year-old Phillies fan from Voorhees, New Jersey, had an autographed keepsake he could wear home.Dorfman landed the lucky helmet after a few adults clutched it in a scrum in the aisle Thursday night at Citizens Bank Park. Cooler heads prevailed and — at the urging of the boy’s father, Aaron, — the helmet ended up with the beaming fifth grader. The Dorfmans have a partial season-ticket plan and attend about six Phillies games a year in just a few rows behind the home dugout in section 117.The fireworks started when Harper was ejected by third base umpire Ángel Hernández on a checked strike three. Harper seemingly held his swing on a full count against Pirates starter Luis L. Ortiz and started to take off his protective gear when Hernández called out the...

BRISBANE, Australia (AP) — A month ago Mitch Marsh thought he may have to return down the order to create room for others in Australia’s preferred starting lineup at the Cricket World Cup despite his recent success batting at the top of the innings. The man who once joked that everyone in Australia hated him because he hadn’t made the most of his chances at international level now appears to be the go-to option as an opener. With Travis Head expected to miss at least the first half of the Oct. 5-Nov. 19 World Cup because of a fractured right hand, and with Steve Smith returning from injury to bat at No. 3, the best direction for Marsh to go is up.And if the big, burly allrounder can form an opening partnership with veteran David Warner like he did with Head in Australia’s series win in India in March, it gives the five-time champions serious firepower to start their innings.Australia captain Pat Cummins all but confirmed the two would open to start the World Cup following his si...
